Hello, I am trying to design a form layout that would easily print on pdf on a A4 format. My idea was that as long as I respect the aspect ratio of the A4 (1.414) on the body size of my layout, I would be able to export to pdf as is and Filemaker would scale to fit the layout on the A4 pdf page. Turns out it doesn't seem to work like that: - It always adds the margin for printer which I don't really need, if a user wants to print, he would print the outputted pdf not straight from filemaker. - it doesn't print the full layout but limit itself to a portion of the layout (ie 842 * 595 points minus the margins) from what I understand. …

I have labels (for books) that I print out, based on a text field which contains the book details. To properly do this, the name of the book needs to be italicised. But a very strange thing happens. Whatever font I put the field in, the italicised section just reverts to some kind of system font (I guess), doesnt matter what font I change it to. And it also changes the line spacing, for the italicised section. This occurs in preview, and when printing. I have no idea what is going on, or what to do about it. See attached:

Hi all using Filemaker Advanced 18. I have a single table with 100 records. called scenes. Each record has a reel number. So records 1-10 have a reel number of one. And then go to reel 2 and so on. I don't understand the way to summarize to get a page break. Basically I want the page to break when the reel number changes. I would be grateful for a bit of help even though it is a basic task. I'm not sure if this is do-able, but I thought I'd ask. We print a lot of labels for equipment and hit upon the idea that for smaller devices like iPad power supplies, if we could print two records per label then we could slice the labels down the middle and save money to boot. (See attachment for format-- it's in Layout mode) The problem is that with a label printer, each label is a page/record. Is there a way to print labels so there are not two of the same names/records per label but different names on each "half" of the label, i.e., if we have a list of ten people, five labels would print with a (different) name per each half of the label?

Hi I have a database that generates a report across a selection of dates, showing what scenes are to be filmed on each date. I recently added in the scene layout the two fields - Year set in and INT/EXT, however when I ask it to generate a report it will repeat these two fields on every date with the number input in the first record. None of the other fields do this. The fields are in the same 'scenes' table as all the other fields used in the report. I have added fields before and this has never happened. Hi all, I am constuffulated trying to find why a particular text field will not print its contents. The contents are visible in both Layout and Browse mode and the Object Visibility is NOT selected to hide when printing. There is no Conditional Formatting applied and the "Hide Object When" condition is not activated. I have placed a duplicate of the field in the header and the data shows there for the selected record but it does not show in the body. I have a sub summary part that appears on top of the body that does not print. The sub summary part appears properly (with the proper data) in browse and preview mode. In preview mode, if I save to pdf, the sub summary part appears correctly in the pdf. When I print it.... nothing. I believe it has something to do with th FM print.... I am doing everything through a script. I stopped the script and changes a bunch of setting... changed printers.. changed back... no clue what... and it actually printed. But.... when I closed that window... back to nothing. Any ideas?

Hello Board. I may be searching the incorrect terms; but I can't find an answer to my problem. I have built a system, it's running on FMS18 and multiple client users access it throughout the day. One part of the system is a quality check screen at a physical bench/station - items are scanned and labels are printed out as required, records are created and used elsewhere. Hi all, Filemaker Pro 11, Mac OS 10.12. 3 computers (not running 10.12) with no problems (knocking on wood). Just set up a computer for a new user. Wanting to avoid any major issues, I limited their access to only a couple fields for their data entry duties. When trying to print multiple records, using the "Records being browsed" selection in the print window, only the current record prints. If I select Current Record, it works as expected- only the current record prints. Pages to print selection is "all". Didn't see anything else that was obviously wrong. We have containers that we drag and drop PDFs into, that are externally stored and the field on the layout is formatted as a PDF. I know I've done this in the past where I wrote a little script that sets a temporary path and when it's clicked the enduser can view in Adobe. The script is simple: it sets the a variable to a temporary path, then exports the field contents to automatically open. I cannot get the script to work. It seems so simple... maybe my mind isn't working right today. So my next idea was to make popover button with the pdf container in, interactive so when the user clicks on the popover you see the PDF within Filemaker, that does not work either. I …

With some expert assistance from this forum I was able to get my FMP 17 program to print out external PDFs. Unfortunately, it currently stops with the Acrobat print display open, and I have to manually press Print. (the original discussion was here: Is there any way to have FMP tell Adobe Acrobat DC to automatically print (no human interaction)? And a related issue, but of less importance: Is there any way to have FMP set up the printer (page size, color, etc)? I'm running FMP 17 Adv on Catalina. I have a folder containing the FileMaker file and a large number of PDFs. A script determines if there is a PDF for a particular client, and either sends an email with the PDF attached to that client, or prints out the email body and the PDF. The PDF has a known filename, and can be input as an external file or via a container. The filename is available as a $$ variable; the path is the same as the Filemaker file itself. The email part works fine. The problem is in printing. The script prints out the body of the email perfectly, but I cannot get it to automatically print out the PDF. I'm trying to adjust the print scale on a layout so that I can print more data. I've looked at the Filemaker help and it says. I'm on a Windows XP box using FMP 9 advanced. When I open the print setup dialog there is no scale option to adjust. The techs at my office have tried different printer drivers. The two printers that I have available are a HP 4200 and a HP 5550 laser printers. The techs have tried the latest drivers both the PCL version and the Postscript version. And nothing works. Hi Everyone, So here's one that's either really easy and I've missed it, or it can't be done! I'm printing address labels, and the 7 rows that I'd like to print take up the whole label layout, and so the first one is located at the top of the label in the layout, and the bottom one is at the bottom of the layout. If the label only has 4 rows, then those 4 rows are printed at the very top of the label. To make things pretty, I'd like to have them centered within the label. Hello all, New FM 17 user here and trying to figure out how to print PDFs. I have a database with information about advertisers in a publication that I produce. Each record has a field where I have input their current advertisement (a PDF or JPG) and optimized for Interactive Content. I'd like to be able to print a standard letter to each advertiser on one page and their current ad on the next, but when I preview the printout it only shows the standard AdobePDF thumbnail with the filename instead of the actual ad. Is there any way to do this effectively? Thanks!

I know I've solved this before but can for the life of me recall how. I'm printing a sub-summary report, all good, but between the final record on a page and the Footer is a blank band of whitespace that goes unfilled because it's not large enough to fit the next record. I just want it to be the same color as the footer section. Can someone remind me how?

Is there a way to tell FileMaker to bypass/ignore the current default pdf viewer ( Adobe ) and use the default PDF viewer ( Preview ) that came with thier machine ( mac ) ? We do not require any level of sophistication with a pdf viewer other than the required ability to print the pdf. I'm attempting to re-create some existing "paper" business forms in FileMaker, and have run into a bit of a challenge on how to set the forms up. I have attached a mock-up of a similar type of form, and how I'm envisioning the database structure and data-entry layout looking. Here's where I'm stuck-- If there are more than 2 involved people or more than 2 witnesses, additional pages are required. I have a client who uses a report of many records. Some of the records could have an image appear before the record's details. Occasionally, depending on the length of the descriptions in the previous records, the image will be split across pages. Turning off "Allow part to break across page boundaries" does solve this problem, but has the unwanted side-effect of producing large amounts of whitespace when it's not needed to prevent this issue. So far the only inkling of a solution I've come up with is to check the report one record at a time, temporarily emptying out the description, adding the next record, see if that record has an image and then see if adding that …

Hi, Can anybody help me and explain why I get the "Missing File - Error 100" when I walk through these script steps. I use to stop after step 1, but I had to add some additional work so I created a separate layout off screen ... did what I needed to do, save the record as pdf, set my global field and I closed the window. The refresh is not suppose to be there ... so I attempt to export my "Search PDF Container" field and I get the "fille missing" error. A few years ago I created an FMP 11 app for my Wife. She is the calendar person for her Children's Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. The app selects a monthly layout, which she fill in, than sends it to a print shop who provides her with copies to be distributed to members pf the Auxiliary. Yesterday, for no apparent reason, the app began printing multiple pages for what should be a single page document. Hi, everytime we print and the print module pops ( Mac ) when get this pop up. The only issue is, we have several soluiton in other companies and this "Ram" continues to show up regardless who we are hosting the file with. Can anybody help me here with understanding ... and can were stop it, change it ??? Is there a way to default to someother name other than "RamDigital (DT43)pdf". Hello I am having trouble on printing a layout on a dot matrix printer Epson FX-890 with FileMaker16. The database runs on a server. The page is setup in "Letter" format but FileMaker interprets the width smaller than 216mm resulting in starting a new page. In preview mode it shows the truncated page (sth like 140mm x 279mm), if I change the paper format to "Letter fanfold" it shows correctly in Preview but still prints as if the width is 140mm. I tried various drivers for the printer to no successful result. If I change the container field by logo.png and print the lable both the text and the logo appear correctly. Good Morning, I need help trying to create this report as I can not figure out the best method of doing this. Here is what I need the report to do. My report is a sorted list of technology assets by location name. In each sub summary I need to list the count of all different types of devices. The device types are a value list which has all the items such as “Desktop, Laptop, Firewall, Cellphone” in the list. How can I get the totals for each location of each of these devices to appear? Good morning everyone I'm creating a database where I have to print a report. I created the whole structure but I'm at a block. The report is on several pages and I do not find the solution to be able to have at the bottom of each page the subtotal. The section is inserted, in fact at the end of the list I find the result. I have a problem making data appear at the bottom of the last page of a multi-page print. For example I have to print a 2 page invoice with the summary data at the bottom of the last page, fix position of summary to match with paper. I try to use Grand Trailing Summary part but the information will not appear at the position of the page and use Footer, show at the bottom of all page, also produces the wrong result. Hey Guys, Just a quick one, I have a large report that groups products together via Style, and has totals at the bottom in the green section (I realise they arent totalling but thats not my issue) My issue is, that when I export as a spreadsheet, my products stay grouped by Style, but I cannot for the life of me get the totals to stay underneath the columns of each group! Any help or advice would be appreciated, I just want it so that its in the format below with the group of products, then the totals beneath.

A customer has purchased a new HP LaserJet MSP426FPW that would not print reports from a filemaker solution I call MarinaPro. I have a database, which has two printable forms. One has been designed in portrait, and the other in landscape. Both of them are only ever printed using buttons tied to script steps, never manually. I was hoping that there would be some way to specify orientation via the script. However, after some poking around of my own and light Google searching I am thinking this may not be so easy. I am able to go into Print setup to change the orientation just fine, however this sets it for the entire database which is not all around helpful. I'm designing an application in which the user has to answer lots of questions (about 180). I want to show the user just one question at a time and control the flow based on prior answers. My current solution is to use a table with generic fields (e.g. Question, Answer, Number) and then use a related command table to move from question to question by changing the number of the question. Hey all; I'm working with a client who has a multi-file .fmp12 solution. Every time she attempts to print from one specific file, it prints out in B&W, despite her selection of colour from the printer drivers. Printing from other .fmp12 files is fine, and printing from other applications is fine too though. I've gone through all of the Preferences and File Options, and couldn't find anything that fit the bill, so I went so far as creating a clone of that file, and resetting the print setup options... still to no avail. I have a filemaker solution that is used to print out invoices. For the last few years, the invoices have been printed on pre-made triplicate forms on a dot matrix printer. This was slow, unreliable, and has caused a lot of headaches, so the company recently invested in a laser printer that prints and staple 3-part carbonless forms. The problem is that for the stapling to work, the print job needs to be sent as one 3-page document (not 3 copies of 1 page). Hi forum I have a form which prints fine. There is one form per record but now it has grown and is over a page. I want to make the layout taller but have it print onto next page. Do I need to create a new list report or can a form view print onto two pages? Hey gang, Dealing with a little quirky report part issue in FileMaker. I am wondering how other developers deal with this. Below is the use case scenario and attached is a sample file I zapped up. ISSUE: I have a simple List Report (Header, Body, Trailing Grand Summary, and Footer). Sometimes, depending on the quantity of records in the found set, the Trailing Grand Summary breaks to a new page with NO BODY ROWS. This is quite confusing to the recipient. It would be nice to have at least one row present in this case for continuity purposes. Being an ignoramus ... I have been trying to read and understand Filemaker's "Sub Summary" guide lines as well as videos, I am unable to figure out how to put my summary totals for my "Part" at the bottom verses were they are now, at the top of the "Part", hmm ? I have a layout in which I have specified 3 columns and printing down in layout set-up. I also have two sub-summary parts and a body on this layout. The first leading sub-summary is defined to page break before each occurrence. When I preview the report it does not page break but rather starts a new column. Is this the correct behavior? If it is, it does not seem right and does anyone know how to get it to page break with the printing down option?

I have a list view with several records in a found set. TWO records always exactly fit per page. I know the total pages by going to preview mode then going to last page and setting $numPages variable and my plan was to pause for the user to insert special card stock then print page 1 (which would be page $i from the loop) and repeat for all pages. One page needs to be fed at a time because the printer will not pick it up from the feeding tray it needs to be done individually. Hi! Can anyone assist me on how to accomplish this task. Im developing a Transcript of Record Application where it allows staff to print student records. I have two (2) tables, subjectstaken_hdr 2 and a child table subjectaken_dtl. Displaying the related record from the child table is easy in browse mode. I have a layout in which invoices can be marked via a radio button selection "Paid" or "Unpaid." I am trying to write a script that will only print the invoice if it has been marked as paid, if unpaid send a message to the user (custom dialog box) that the invoice is not yet paid, but I do not know the correct syntax. Been wrestling this for a bit - i have a sub-summary report that has no body part and summarizing and sorting by group and lot numbers in the portal for data entry they appear in natural order (the order entered) There are other fields that are entered or multiple records for one lot number however on the report we need it summarized but we would like the lot numbers to be in the natural order as they were entered in the portal. I am trying to figure out a way to force the lot numbers in the natural order.

Hello again, I am trying to have a sub-summary field repeat only once per page. I have made several different attempts now, and I have ran out of ideas. The field is related to another group of fields. When it spans across pages, it would be nice to relist it. When the field prints every occurrence on the same page, it becomes crowded. I've created a database that automatically complies an invoice for time worked. I'm loving how it's working. I recently converted my business database from FMP 11 to FMP 14. I am now having problems with printing a multipart form to my Okidata Microline 320 Turbo printers. I have a OkiLan printer server card in these printers. The form is a preprinted, multipart, tear off form 8.5 in by 8.5 in. The problem that I am having is that the "ticket" is now getting split into two pages and it used to be one on FMP 11. I am sending these print jobs from Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I find that reports are one of the most challanging things in Filemaker to understand (at least for me). I have basic projects table and all I want to do is print out the list of projects but grouped by the account they are associated with. I.E. ABC Company Project 1 Project 2 Project 3 Ideally, I'd like a sum of the project value field. I'm confused about the report "parts". I started using 1.1 and am now using 12 with Yosemite. I want to send out 329 A4 receipts, but when I sort them by Zip, only 165 go to be printed. If I code the 165 and send then for printing, only 83 will get there - and so on. I have been exclusively Apple, Filemaker and QuarkXPress since Nov 1985, so I know nothing about computers. Can anyone suggest why it is happening and an understandable solution?

Greetings! I'm experimenting with reports, and I stumbled across this cross-tab report. I am getting close results with this approach, but I am still missing something... Could someone have a look at the screenshots and tell me if this is possible. If so, maybe point me in the right direction. It shows the first quantity, but excludes any others. AHHHHH!!!!! now thats out of the way hoping for some help here in printing a receipt. I have a small POS i am working on and the issue I have is printing all line items on a receipt from sales_line items table. If I go to the receipt screen in browse mode all items are there (and the receipt looks how it should). However when I print i have only the last item printing above all the totals and all other items have "disappeared" on the printout . I have set to print current record and the layout is in list view. I have a database made up of 3 tables, Company, Event, and Registration. I have created a report showing all of the events each company attend, summarized by Company. What I am trying to figure out is how to create two different reports One Report showing only the Companies that are attending only one event and One Report showing companies that will be attending more than one event. I'd like some advice on the best way to create reports so that they can be viewed on an iPad but also printed as pdf docs. The reports I need to look at creating would involve a crosstab table, a number of charts and then providing an overall RAG status. The report would need to be viewed on an iPad as that's predominantly how we use FM in my school but also I've want to export it to a pdf doc where so it can be printed. My thoughts at the moment are using SQL with virtual tables to get the summary data for the crosstab alongside some other virtual tables to collate the other information. Hello All, The company I work for uses small "Termal Transfer" printers in order to print the labels for the products they sell. Some of the printers used are: Zebra TLP2844, Zebra ZP200, Zebra ZP455, Okidata LD630T. I'm currently testing with the OKIDATA LD630T which is the one I have available now but the issue is happening with all the other printers as well. My problem is that all my layouts has to be printed via PDF or Preview to get it printed correctly. If a send it to a printer (via a generic printer script) it seems to be 2 or 3 lines more, and therefor incorrect for the form. I mostly use A4 Portrait. The problem started when I tried to make Leading Grand Summary after variable Lines (Body). Then I was advised to use Attend to get it correct to PDF. I did so, but it still failed on the printout. Then I removed the Leading Grand Summary, and the Attend to PDF, but the result was negative. Hi, How do you print the temporary folder if you have to append the pdf where you have multiple pages. Yes I can on the last "Append" select "Automatically Open" but I want to send it to the "Printer" automatically without the user interacting with it. They already interacted with the layout by selecting the "Print" button. We just installed an HP LaserJet M525c printer and every report that FileMaker 11 prints to it has enlarged logos/fonts (see attached image). We haven't had this issue printing from any other program -- Word, Excel, even printing to a PDF from FM and then printing that PDF with Adobe. I've run different reports from different databases and each time, the report is printed faintly in the background with gigantic wording (the correct field headers and data fields) are blown up over top of it. Has anyone ever had this experience? Any ideas for a solution?

I get this very often now, but with no rhyme or reason why. I print some single bills (tuition bills) out and then for no reason it doesn't print and I get this message: Printing cannot continue because this printer is not connected to a port (which is definitely is, I don't have this issue with other software, only filemaker). Use the control panel to set up a port. I have to shut down filemaker and reopen my software and then it starts working again for a while and then for no reason, again, it gives me the same error message until I close it again. Using FM12. HELP!!!

Having a problem with printing multiple pages when some container fields are set to slide up when fields above are hidden. I have a layout for one to enter expense info along with a copy of a receipt (jpg image). Hard to describe but here's my attempt: I have a 10 page layout with each page consisting of a first row with fields to enter data about, i.e., Reference Number, Date, Location, Reason. Hi there I have a found set of data which is heavily filtered to include just what I need in order to prepare a list sub summary report. A particular sub summary part has a GetSummary calculation in it to calculate the value of the figures above, based on a particular break field and date. Hello, I am in need of creating a printable version of my invoice layout. The layout contains 2 portals, of which the data needs to be printed out from. The first portal is contact information for the client, the second is item/inventory portal, which can range from 1 line to over 100. FedEx sent us a Zebra ZP505 thermal label printer to print our FedEx shipping labels. Unfortuantely, neither FedEx or Zebra support the Mac OS. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 and there are a couple of Zebra print drivers that came with the OS but neither of them can print to this specific Zebra printer. I need to print labels for items (products), and the number of labels (copies) for each product is calculated in a field of the database. Each record calls for a number of items to be labeled with specific instructions for packing (date, location, etc.). For example: Record 1 calls for 3 items type no.1 Record 2 calls for 1 item type no.2 Record 3 calls for 7 items type no. 5, and so on... Hi Board! My FM solution has multiple clients running from FMS13. There is a script that the operator runs from a button that takes data from their screen and prints a label. If I want to have networked printers, how do i specify that printer within the script? If 3 operators have 3 separate FM clients and next to each is a networked printer, how do I get the print job from Operator 1 to print out on Printer 1, and Op2 out of P2 etc etc? I have 5 tables, all related hierarchically (parent id). What I'd like to accomplish is to make a report of the whole tree. It did only once. It's been installed, deleted and reinstalled a number of times. Test pages DO come out properly. It does have a port address. Here's the error message I keep getting. Note I'm on a new machine and have installed FM12 advanced. This prints on other machines. Printing cannot continue because this printer is not connected to a port (it is!). I have a weird problem in printing from a container file, that I haven't seen any mention of in the forums. I want to present a stored PDF, which is the help file for my solution. I can navigate to a layout with the container presented as optimised for interactove content. The container is large enough to shows a readable interactive PDF with the adobe interface buttons appearing allowing, save, print, zoom in or out and 'show adobe toolbar'. We use FMP to record donations and print acknowledgement letters. The latter is done from a layout into which I've inserted a PDF of our letterhead - actually, a link to that PDF, so I can update the letterhead from time to time by replacing the original PDF. I chose PDF because (a) the letterhead is mostly text, which makes for a small file, ( it's resolution-independant, and © the original letterhead is done in InDesign, which exports to PDF. The layout was done in FMP10. We recently upgraded to FMP13, and now, when I print the layout, the letterhead elements are pixelated.
