  1. LS, I have created a typical print script with pagesetup and then print. When I call it the print is sent to the printer. However, the printer asks for confirmation for use of the media type ( I am printing to A4 ). The layout was defined as A4. Even printing manually ( choosing file > print ) the printer gives me the dialog. Doing the same thing from Word. No problem what so ever. Any info would be appreciated !

    I have a Billing and Deposit Portal on a layout. My Portal is sorted and filtered as well with respect to Gradelevl and Term I have made several payments and deposits, for example, I have made payments for :school fees,Tuition,Medical,Boarden, for several Gradelevels and Terms... On my Report, I can only see School fees payment .. But my TotalAmount summary subsummary field gives total values of payment made whereas they ain't visible on the report layout..

  3. About a week ago a weird thing happened, the background on reports on Windows machines only started to print the color BLUE on one of the files. The reports print fine from a MacBook Pro and from FM Go on an iPad. The PDFs from the file are consistent they are created fine from the Mac & iPad platform and blue from the Window's Platform. Objects with a background are not affected, for example the scanned logo shows white. On one of the reports I removed the solid white background and it then printed okay..I tried this on others with mixed results. This happens at my client's office, as well as, from Window 8.1 while running the Parallel 10 on my MacBook …

  4. I have a database that is running on a FM12 server. Today out of the blue all of the layout backgrounds started printing and previewing as dark gray instead of white. The problem is occurring on multiple workstations so it appears to be an issue with the database or the server and not the FMP12 clients. I have one computer that is running FMP13A and it has had mixed results. Sometimes the layouts are white and sometimes they preview as dark gray. Has anyone seen this problem before? Does this behavior sounds like it is a file corruption issue?

    I'm trying to make a simple data base for workouts. Some of the tables are: plan, muscle group, exercise... And a join table. From the plan presentation (plan table) and through a portal showing the join table I set the day, muscle group and the exercises. I print the plan as a report from the join table (using day and mg parts to sort) like so: Day 1 Chest - bench press - flyes Biceps - curl - Scott Abs - hanging leg rise What I'd like to accomplish is following day X, to have the list of muscle groups of that day.   6. I have a button on my screen that, when pushed, will print a label for the current person on my dymo label printer. In that script, I go to the layout for the dymo, print it, go back to my regular layout, reset the printer to my regular dell printer. Problem is, for some reason it never resets to my regular dell printer. Then when I do a regular print, forgetting to change the printer in the print box, I waste a lot of labels!   8. Hi all, I have a filemaker customer database and one layout includes a webviewer to display the map from google-maps for a customer's location. While the map is displayed perfectly in browse mode I am having the problem that when I print the record or enter preview mode, the content of the web viewer is blank. I have fiddled with all options in Inspector but I cannot find a way around this and am finding it very challenging!     Hi All, I have a database which is accessed by two people in the field via IWP and when they create a job card on site I want the system to print that report from the server. I have tried setting an OnCommit trigger to perform the required printing script but can't get it to work as the print function is not supported. My next approach was to use an OnTimer script and set a flag on the job card so a timed find could be performed and then print any records that have the flag set but as I currently use the OnTimer script to trigger a backup one will interfere with the other. Any pointers to achieve an automated print would be appreciated.

    I print checks, or I did, using 8.5. Being forced to upgrade my computer also forced me to upgrade to shiny new Filemaker 12. Now I can't print checks. They feed edgewise and my printing scripts selects orientation to rotate the image edgewise. The paper rotates, but the printing image does not. Anyone have any ideas?   11. I'm attempting to implement the virutal list technique in a database that generates patient consult letters and such. The transcriptionist transfer text from word documents, after transcribing a dictation, into a text field. This information is then electronically signed by the physician and populated in queue for faxing. After the document is e-signed it is viewable to various user groups at which time the virtual list generates a document in preview mode (for printing, viewing, etc.). I have managed to edit a report layout to look how I want it to, however when i get it to generate a report from those files it does not show all of them, only the second list of them for some reason. The printer can print single sided or double sided, but I can't seem to Get File Maker to print a double sided card. It prints single sided just fine. We've been using MS word to print from, and as long as the front and the back are on separate pages it prints double sided as it should.     Hello everyone, I am trying to mimic my fields to look kind of like lined paper and I am using text baselines to do just that. On my mac, it looks perfect and I am very pleased but then when I print it does not print the baselines! I have no idea why it won't work. I also tried viewing the form on my iPAD and the baselines do not exist! They show up on my Mac and PC but will not show up on filemaker Go plus they do not print. I shared it using network sharing but when i go to preview it when i open it using the remote option on another computer it previews very small. Like if it was meant for an iPhone. Any ideas why?   21. I've got a layout for a report with long text fields, so those fields slide up to get rid of the white vertical space between them. At the end of the report there is a portal that displays a bunch of pictures related to the current record. Because of the sliding fields, the portal may start at any position of the page, and very often this means that one of portal pictures will be cut by a page break. Is there a way to control that a portal row doesn't get split between different pages? Thanks!

    I've inherited a couple of databases that need some help. I'm hoping I can find a simple solution for page breaks. Running FMP 11 V3 on Server I have a simple, but long report that is four pages long. It is currently set up fairly simply with a header and footer and body in between. The body is tall enough to accommodate the four pages. The problem that came up today (because of system upgrades) is that the print drivers on different machines are giving different page builds.   23. Hi -- simple one, I hope . . . Let's say I want to create a record Print-Out layout that will include little labels indicating the field (eg. City: Miami), but *only* if there is data in that field. If a field is empty, I don't want a label there wasting space. What's the best way to achieve this? I'm thinking one way is to set up a whole set of "Print_Field" fields, each with an If (NotEmpty . . . ) calculation that returns the "label:data" only if the field has data in it . . . but that seems like an awful lot of extra field creation (50 fields are suddenly 100 fields now)?   24. Im trying out FM12 and have a container field used to hold links (via calculation) to image documents. Up to now, the images were saved in jpeg format (1 image per page) for mac/windows access. I am moving to a Mac only environment and prefer to use PDFs, since most of the documents are originally in PDF format - mostly text, so I won't have to convert them to jpegs as I have been doing. I have 6 Citizen CLP-631 printers, all loaded with different ribbon and different labels. They are dotted about a factory floor and networked. All print fine. Yes, for shame - I took the easy way out! I'll like to purchase a reliable barcode label printer to use as a dedicated printer for this function. There are many printers out there, and I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend a product that is known to work well with Filemaker, whether laser or thermal or other, though I'm told that laser-printed labels tend to last longer.     Upon upgrading our users to FileMaker Pro 11 on Windows 7 we have experienced issues with printing. Regardless of what the default print prefrence is the user is prompted to "Manual Feed Heavy Letter" on our HP printers. This does not happen when running FileMaker Pro 11 on an XP machine. Please let me know if you have experienced this and if there are any suggestions on how we can fix it.

I am trying to create a layout report for all of these pages and am having difficulty in inserting the whole COE and page breaks so I can print all of these pages off and also merge some of the data like name, address, date employee started, etc. Can you do a report for 10 pages in Filemaker and merge some fields?   40. Our system now has about 30 reports and the way I manage them is by haveing a layout with buttons on it that run those reports. I need to simplify it and its really hard to keep it looking neat and tidy. Ideally I could create a table which I could name each report and give a description and when the user clicks on a button it runs the relevant script. Anyone got any ideas?

  42. Hi there... we have a table of sales orders... I can easily create a report that shows Sales persons and there Profit, number of orders etc etc..... What I am trying to do is append to that report a kind of global framework based on the number of days in the date range for the report... so for example if the report is for 30 days the report should add on a 30x£1000 pound bonus framework. I noticed I had a problem when I added my "Trailing Grand Summary" fields together to check the total summary column and I discovered that I am OFF by pennies ?? It prints great, but the address doesn't fit particularly well in the window of an envelope. Here's my idea: I want to print the invoice in landscape like normal, and have the printer print the address on the back of the invoice in a position that would fit in the window if I were printing in portrait.     I have an FMP solution for tracking productivity in a manufacturing environment. I gather quantity of parts produced, as well as quantity of parts expected (over time) in a database. I have several reports that summarize the data based on employee, job ID, etc. One of the reports includes the below calculation field to calculate performance as a percentage. Truncate( (GetSummary ( summary of actual parts ; _kf_operation_no )/GetSummary ( summary of expected parts ; _kf_operation_no ))*100;2) I would like to sort the report in descending order, based on this field, but cannot.     Hello again, I am working on my first report. I have a main table ("Projects") and 3 related tables ("Customers", "Operations" and "Components"). Every record in "Projects" has only a Customer and several Operations and Components. I can work perfectly on Layout mode. The problems come with Preview mode and printing. In Layout mode I can see fields from Projects, Customers, Operations and Components perfectly. If I change to Preview mode I can see only the Projects fields.     Another FileMaker 12 problem... Google found an unanswered query about the same problem, posted here about a year ago. Has anyone found a solution since then? The problem: Fields in a list are defined with a corner radius of 0 and Line is set to bottom only (or indeed any other partial frame). Everything looks right in Browse and Preview mode - but when printed, the entire field has a pale outline (the intended line is darker). This looks genuinely awful.     Hi all I have reproduced a letterhead which consists of the company's logo and address going down the right hand side of the page (there is content from the top to the bottom). I have done this with a combination of text and images, and container fields (containing a blank image for when the header is not required). I also made the entire layout A4 (including length) in Layout view. The other thing I had to do is expand the main line item description field (in the Body part) to 457px, with sliding up enabled. The problem is that sliding doesn't seem to work if the layout is longer than around 739 pixels, and my layout is around 810. Any ideas? Thanks

Now I want the entire section to not cross a page break, ie: Step # Above Time Above Body Time Below Should all appear on the same page.   56. I have a db hosted on Filemaker Server 12 Advanced. When users are using the database and go to print a page, in the print dialog box the print range is specified to be 'page 32 of 32'. So users often get the wrong page printed, or nothing at all, as there are some tables with less than 32 pages at the moment. I tried a script with a print setup when the db is opened, but there is no place to specify the print range in the print setup dialog box, so that did not change anything.   58. I am currently using FileMaker 9 Pro on a Windows XP 32 bit system. When running a script to print a certain layout on one user's profile, I receive the following error message: "The combined size of the Header plus the Footer is longer than can fit on the page. To print, first make the Header or Footer shorter or use longer paper." If I log in as myself on the same computer and run the exact same script, there is no error message and the layout prints fine. As far as I can tell there should be no issue with either header or footer. Is there a user print setting or something along those lines that I can change to fix it?

    Hey guys, first time posting on the forum. I've tried searching for a similar question but have yet to succeed. Here is my issue: Recently, FM12 has started to crash whenever trying to print. It only seems to do it from some reports, and it's running on Windows XP. Usually the printing dialogue box appears (attachment), and then freezes. Occasionally, the job will print after I've "end tasked" the program. This happens on 1 page print jobs as well. The printer is a networked printer with a Post Script driver. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

  62. Hi, I have a database that was created in FileMaker 11, and everything was working well. We recently upgraded to FileMaker 12, so the database was converted. A user recently had an issue where some text was cut off in a sliding field (field is set to slide up to remove unused blank lines). On screen it looks fine, and in Print Preview it looks fine, but when the page is printed, the last line is cut off. This was tested on multiple printers with different printer drivers. This wasn't an issue when it was a FM 11 file. Not sure how to resolve the problem... Can anyone help??

  63. Situation--in a found set of records: We have integrated bottle labels on our invoice. For each record, page one includes two bottle labels, colors #1 and #2, page two includes bottle labels color #3 and #4. Not every customer orders colors #3 and #4 so we only need to print page one for those customers. If I set the page size to A4, It uses my locally installed printer name along with other local printer settings.     I would like to have Page X of Y in my report's footer, and but let my user see a Print Dialog. However, if the user switches printers, the page Y is sometimes no longer accurate, as the change in driver causes a reflow of the text and of course Y is already populated.* Apparently, the "current" printer is the last to which the user actually printed.     On a solution at a client site we have added a series of Dymo printers for receipts. Because they had a couple laying around from other uses and a couple new ones were added there is a mixture of these printers on the various client machines. The Print step in the script that generates receipts indicates a Dymo 450 as the pinter. This works great if the client machine happens to have a 450 attached. If there is a 400 attached then the receipt is directed to the default printer, which in most cases is a standard HP printer. Pages (iLife 11) does not support mail merge from data sources other than Address Book or a Numbers document - that rules out direct use of FileMaker even with ODBC. Report #1 is a simple report layout and the user uses the default Filemaker PREVIEW and then PRINT and/or PRINT SETUP to choose the printer and options. Report #2 on the other hand is printed from a script. The script contains a Print Setup - performed with a dialog and no page setup options chosen.     Try as I may, I have been unable to format a layout that centers fields on an Avery label sheet. Doesn't seem to matter where I stack the text. The print out will center on some of the labels, be at the top on some of the labels and hang over the edge on others. When I select a new layout I am careful to select from the list of available sizes, in this case Avery 5161. Any ideas how to do this?

    On the attached sub summary report I have assessment questions sorted by Locations so that the Location appears only once with related questions underneath. I have a field on the far left called Question No and I would like this to increase by one with each sub summary Location. I've tried quite a few things such as creating a sub summary field etc but I can't get it to count like I want it to. I must note that the report is sorted at first by two fields from different tables (and then sorted by Locations) so that the Locations and related Questions appear on the report in the right order. I'll keep trying in the meantime.

Filemaker only summarizes what is in the found records. I would like it to summarize all 4 product categories even though some product categories have no value in the amount field to summarize.     I have a report with two subsummary parts. My problem is I don't know how to keep the subsummary parts together when printing. On some pages the first subsummary part prints at the bottom of the page while the second subsummary part prints on the top of the following page. In WordPerfect, there is a way to select text and click "keep text together." Is there something similar in Filemaker? Thanks, Kevin

  91. Hello, Our old macs are about to pass over, therefore no more Mac 0S 9... We g-have to move all our FMP DB (we are currently running on FMP 4.1) to a newer version. I'm doing tests on FMP 8.5 Advance. As you can see from the two file TEST 1, repeating fields are not sliding up properly. These are just 2 examples but out of the many (using real data) I am not able to find a pattern, it seems ramdom. All repeating fields are properly set to slide up and shrink, there is no object in the layout to stop sliding, in FMP 4.1 everything was working just beautifully Does anyone know why this is happening and how to correct it ?   95. FM 10 Adv. OS 10.4.11. I have this laptop connected to an inkjet printer. I have the printer defaults set to "Fast" speed. If I choose to print through the menu, the correct default print speed appears, but if I print through a script, the printer uses quality speed which is quite a bit slower.     Hi - I have developed an extensive CRM application since FMP4 and now running on FMP 11. I have a customer inquiry page that presents perfectly in browse mode but in preview or pdf print it loses certain fields. There is no obvious explanation except the fields missing are mainly repeating fields (2 repeats) and total fields - they are not related or portal fields just other fields. If I select the field in layout mode double click and pick another field then it displays perfectly so it is nothing to do with the sliding or don't print option.     Not sure which category this falls into, but there we go anyway - how do I change the internal database title that appears in File/Print/PDF/Save Records as PDF under "Title" (on a Mac). It seems to be assigned during the creation stage and later it doesn't change unless you do a "Recover..." and it changes to "Untitled". Changing the file's name doesn't affect it.
